Why is it good, alright, annoying or shit?:
Would highly recommend this board for any surfers looking to progress by coming down in size from a slightly larger board without wanting to own an outright performance short board that they will struggle to surf.
I have a 7’6 Carpet (58L) and was slightly worried about the jump down in size for me but the 6’2 version of the Gulfstream Space Hopper (44L) has more than enough volume to maintain that easy paddle and early entry but it still feels very light and manoeuvrable under your feet once you are standing up.
This board comes in a variety of sizes all the way from 6’2 down to 5’2 so it can be surfed by any standard of surfer not just an improver like myself.
It is improving my surfing with every session and appears to handle most conditions no problem including some head high waves with a steep face.
It is set up as a quad fin and the key to its tight turning arc seems to be the bat wing tail and thinned out rails as it comes into the tail which really bite into the face of the wave for amazing hold. The Gulfstream Space Hopper is super responsive and easy to turn and I can imagine a better surfer than me would absolutely shred on this board!! LOVE IT!
