Bantham is a surf spot that is highly regarded, not just by the locals. It consistently delivers throughout the Autumn and winter months. And as for the summer, if there’s a sniff of a wave on the Devon South coast, it’s likely best at Bantham. Little bit of Trivia – you know that Ben Howard? Yeah, bit of a lej (‘Keep your head up’ still makes me want to happy-cry a little), anyway this is his old stomping ground.

Don’t be a dick if you see him in the sea there though. It’s not like he’s in a position to sign autographs or take selfies. Maybe just an awkward nod where you smile and a little bit of dribble falls out, then feel like a bell-end for the rest of the afternoon (never happened to me).

When Bantham is kicking, there are a vast number of breaks. Best one is breaking to the right in to the river mouth. And on the odd occasion (and with the right tide) there is a nice break further into the river.
However bear in mind that it’s crazy popular when conditions are good.
