Ever since I started wearing the suit of wetness I have always had problems with neck chafing. You know, like you’ve been given a hickie by a piece of sandpaper. I tried everything, different suit, rash vest with a high neck, nothing seemed to work.
I came across the Leaping Fish Surfer’s Balm on the Museum of British surfing shop. Having tried most other things, I thought it was worth giving it a go, plus there are the added benefits of supporting the MOBS and they always send a couple of free stickers. The child in us always likes a few free stickers, right.
The balm comes in a 60ml tin with screw lid and is very pleasant with a grapefruit smell to it and is made from natural waxes and oils. Rub your fingers over the top and it will melt slightly onto your fingers so it can be applied to which ever area you are normally chafing.
I have applied before going out for a session and it does help reduce chafing with a pre application, but I have still had times when I have come back in and my neck is raw. Must be down to having a killer session, or maybe I haven’t put enough on. The main benefit though is post surf application. Here I have found this balm to be outstanding. I can come back with a red raw neck and within half an hour any pain is gone and with regular application, the healing process is considerably quicker. I would not go out without it now.
Price wise, its around £11, not cheap, but my tin is still going and for what it achieves, I will certainly be buying some again when I run out. Get some from MOBS and show them your support, and get some stickers 😉
